Moonrocks

17/03/11

Students at Central Foundation Boys’ School, including IC6 science students, recently had the exciting experience of handling moon rocks brought back from lunar missions in the late 60's by NASA astronauts.

The moon rocks were loaned for one week by the Science and Technology Facilities Council and the exciting and top security loan consisted of meteorites, lunar samples encapsulated within a disc, samples viewable on a USB stick and various literature.

Over the course of the time I have spent at the Islington Consortium there have been a number of different activities that were all unique, helpful and furthermore interesting. On this current occasion we were introduced to the many different types of stones on the surface of the moon. This experience taught us that due to the many unique structures of the moon there are still countless things we could learn from them.

The experience was both exciting and stimulating. This taught me that there is still much to learn and the consortium still has plenty of other activities that can help educate me further.
