IC6 students 'Support the Music'
26/05/11
IC6 students recently took part in a ‘Support the Music’ workshop delivered by record label Shed Records at Central Foundation Boys’ School. The aim of the project is to deter illegal downloading by raising young people’s awareness of the number of people who rely on music sales for their livelihood.
The workshop speakers - representing various roles in the music industry - included high energy artist Natisse, songwriter Dan and record label boss Paul Sheddon. They took IC6 students through the jobs and people involved in the process of taking a simple song idea through to record release and radio and online broadcasting in order to highlight exactly how much work goes into making one music track.
Using Shed Records’ professional equipment students Shamsul Haque and Idris Sobande mixed the track Dan had been working on and artist Natisse performed the finished song – “Kiss Me On The Lips“.
Natisse then outlined the typical day-to-day life of a music artist, explaining that at the moment she has to supplement her work as an artist by working in a pub.
BBC Newsbeat journalists attended the event and interviewed IC6 students to get their views on the workshop. You can read the BBC Newsbeat article here and listen to part 1 of the BBC Radio 1 broadcast here (begins at 13.45) and part.2 here.
