Globe restaurant opening
08/06/11
Eight Year 12 IC6 Hospitality Diploma students who shared a vision to provide mouth-watering, tasty food from around the world, realised their dreams when they hosted the opening of their own restaurant ‘The Globe’ at Central Foundation Boys’ School - transforming a classroom into a fully-functioning restaurant and preparing and serving food to the VIP staff guest-list.
The students gained experience in all aspects of running a restaurant, from concept and design, purchasing the ingredients, producing a menu, to cooking and serving the food.
Guests were treated to the following 3-course meal:
The Menu
•Starter
Bruschetta – a delicious crispy slow roasted bread rubbed with garlic and topped with extra olive oil, salt, pepper, mozzarella and tomatoes.
•Main
Chicken Chow Mein – a mouth-watering combination of succulent pieces of chicken, noodles and fried vegetables
•Dessert
Chocolate Fudge Cake with Raspberry sauce and Vanilla Ice-Cream - indulging chocolate fudge cake with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, drizzled with raspberry sauce
Each course was happily eaten up by staff, with few empty plates to be seen. Second helpings were even requested, particularly after finishing the dessert! In fact, demand was so high that even Department Heads’ Mr Costello and Mr Van Deemter had to be politely turned away when they asked for a table at the fully-booked restaurant.
The entire service went without any mishaps, with the whole experience leaving a calming effect on the guests. Frederick’s Restaurant London owner and manager Matt Segal, a Globe Restaurant VIP guest, had this to say:
“I thought yesterday’s Globe Launch was a true success - the way reservations, meeting & greeting, table mise en place etc was handled was all perfect. Obviously customer service (ladies first and topping up drinks!) was also brilliant. And that’s without mentioning the food - which matched the menu description perfectly in that it was delicious. Punctuality was also perfect…”
Congratulations to the Hospitality staff and students for such a smoothly-executed event. We hope they will have the opportunity to host another service in the future.
