OCR National Certificate L2 in ICT

Course Outline

This course is suitable for those studying in preparation for employment in the Information and Communication Technology sector particularly in job roles where they will be expected to use ICT skills, liaise with users and carry out ICT support roles. It is also suitable for those wishing to gain a Level 2 qualification to support further study in FE and provides a possible progression route to the OCR Level 3 qualifications in ICT which we offer.

Course Structure

To gain the full qualification OCR National Certificate in ICT over the year students will need to complete 9 Units (which include two half units). These include:

Unit 1: ICT skills for business (compulsory)
Unit 2: Webpage creation
Unit 3: Digital imaging – plan and produce computer graphics
Unit 4: Design and produce interactive multimedia products
Unit 6: Spreadsheets – design and use
Unit 7: Databases – design and use
Unit 20: Creating animation for the WWW using ICT
Unit 21: Creating computer graphics

Plus 2 others which will be decided as they year progresses.

Entry Requirements

You should usually have 2 or more GCSEs at Grade C or above including English or Mathematics at D or above.
A Merit or Distinction in a relevant subject at Level 1 is desirable.

If you have already completed a level 2 ICT qualification this course would be seen as a duplication of the work you have already carried out and so not a possible option for you.

Assessment

All units are internally assessed, and then externally moderated by an OCR Visiting Moderator. There are no external tests or exams.  Assessment of course work takes place on arrangement with the external moderator – usually twice a year. Throughout the year students are given very clear deadlines which have to be adhered to guarantee completion of the course.

Progression

To progress to a Level 3 qualification you will need to achieve a Merit. If you successfully complete the course you can progress to the OCR Level 3 National Extended Diploma in ICT or other National Diplomas or another Level 3 qualification.

The best preparation for this course is to visit the OCR Nationals website, http://ocrnationals.com/index.php, to get full details of the content and software skills required for each unit. You should find time to practise any software you are unfamiliar with. 

You should also talk to friends who have done the same course in previous years and you should visit the section on OCR Nationals on the Teach ICT website, http://teach-ict.com/ocr_nationals_home.html, where you will also find tutorials on how to use the different software programs.
