Course Outline

18 Units – equivalent to 3 A Levels

This brand new popular full time course is being offered by the outstanding art department at Highbury Grove. The course allows students to cover a wide range of different skills within the field of art whilst allowing specialisation in an area of interest later on in the course.

Art and design encompasses many different fields, including graphic design, photography, web design, illustration, fashion and textiles - so there are many career options available upon competition. 

Course Structure

In the first year students cover key units including materials, techniques and design, visual communication and recording, contextual influences, ideas and concepts, computers in art, design principles and freelance work in art and design.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths. Art or Design and Technology at grade B or above. The art department may ask candidates to submit a portfolio of art work as part of the enrolment process.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous throughout the course and takes numerous formats such as paintings, drawing, sculptures and fashion designs. There are no exams and the students will produce a large portfolio of evidence. 

Progression

Successfully completing the course will open up numerous pathways within Higher Education or employment. The course you choose to specialise in will determine what type of degree course you are likely to progress onto. There are also numerous other courses you can progress onto such as HNDs or you can choose to go straight into employment.

After successfully completing the course the many career pathways students may eventually progress onto include design, fashion, theatre or fine art.
