BTEC Introductory Diploma in Sport and Leisure

Course Outline

In addition to the BTEC qualification we will be offering National Governing Body refereeing and Coaching Awards in a variety of activities (Table Tennis, Badminton and Football).

You will study the sport and leisure industry and you will also have the opportunity to play sport. You will have work experience linked to the sport and leisure industry.

You will study eight units, including:
• Working in sport
• The healthy body
• Personal effectiveness
• Financial management
• Taking part in sport
• Organising a sport or leisure activity.

Entry Requirements

You do not need any formal qualifications but you must have an interest in sport. You should be at Entry Level 3 or have achieved at least F-G Grades in your GCSEs.

Assessment

100% coursework.

You will be assessed through assignment work. You can achieve a Pass, a Merit or a Distinction. Basic skills will be assessed through an external exam and a portfolio.

Progression

Opportunities include working with sports professionals in fitness, sports coaching and outdoor education.
BTEC Introductory Diploma in Sport and Leisure provides a basic introduction to working in the sector and offers opportunities for accessing further study, such as a BTEC First Diploma qualification. You will usually require at least a Merit to progress to Level 2.
