BTEC First Diploma L2 in Health and Social Care

Course Outline

This is a full time, one year course. The course is practical and work related and you will complete projects based on realistic, workplace situations.

The course is designed to enable you to study other subjects alongside your BTEC First Diploma. Depending on the locally available programme of study, the structure of the course allows you to develop your interests and gain a broad foundation and introduces you to new areas, such as cultural diversity, anatomy and physiology or individual rights and needs in health and social care.

1 Communication and Individual Rights within the Health and Social Care Sectors

2 Individual Needs within the Health and Social Care Sectors

Specialist units

3 Vocational Experience in Health and Social Care Setting*

4 Cultural Diversity in Health and Social Care

5 Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care

6 Human Lifespan Development

*This unit includes 60 hours of mandatory work experience

Entry Requirements

You should usually have 2 or more GCSEs at Grade C or above including English or Mathematics at D or above. A Merit or Distinction in a relevant subject at Level 1 is desirable.

Assessment

100% coursework.

Progression

Following completion of the BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care you would be able to enter initial employment at a junior level in occupational therapy or social work.

The achievement of the BTEC First Diploma has the equivalence of 4 GCSEs graded A*-C. If you achieve an overall Merit grade or better in the BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care, it is possible for you to progress to a higher level qualification such as the Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care or to do additional studies at Level 2, such as an NVQ.

Find a work experience placement in early years or in a day care centre.
