ASDAN Level 1 Certificate in Personal Effectiveness (CoPE)

Course Outline

Life skills courses offer students the chance to learn and practise skills that they need for independent living. Topics covered include using money, telling time, personal hygiene, health and fitness, cooking and travel training. Part of the work is done in class, with regular trips into the local community giving students the opportunity to practise these skills in real life situations.

The programme runs over one year and offers entry level education to provide students with the opportunity to develop a range of life skills (such as communication and independent travel skills) and basic skills (such as functional literacy and numeracy) enabling them to feel confident to move on when the time is right.

Entry Requirements

The main criteria is for the student to want to progress within an educational environment. Entry is by interview. No formal entry requirements are necessary.

Assessment

Achievement is set to meet the needs of the student and assessed by the school and externally moderated by teachers.

Progression

CoPE provides opportunities for progression to higher levels of CoPE, wider key skills and Level 1 or Level 2 courses, or into employment. Progression is therefore possible, and encouraged, towards achievement of full wider key skills certification, quality assured to QCA requirements, as determined following the key skills review.
