Course Outline

If you have an enthusiasm for images, media text and digital technology you will find this course interesting. You will develop a critical understanding of media and its influential role in today's society and our daily lives examining how meanings and responses are created through the media.

The course offers you the opportunity to develop your own views and interpretations and to develop independent research skills and their application through practical work, exploring production processes and technologies and examining major contemporary media issues.

Unit 3: Media: Critical Perspectives

Unit 4: Media: Research and Production

Entry Requirements

6 GCSEs at Grade C or above including English and Mathematics and a Grade B in either English or a related subject.

Assessment

50% examination, 50% coursework (practical production).

Progression

This course provides an excellent foundation for further study in Media in higher education and for a range of related areas in the arts and humanities.

Pre-course reading or preparation

Students should watch a wide range of films and TV programmes of different genres.  Students should also read newspapers, magazines and watch the news to take an interest in current media debates before the start of the course.
