Course Outline

‘Economics is about choice and the impact of these choices on the structure and behaviour of society. It relates to every aspect of our daily lives from the decisions made by households (what goods and services to buy), firms (what goods and services to produce, how to produce them and in what quantities) and governments (decisions regarding investment, spending, trade, etc.).’ Rebecca Taylor senior lecturer in Economics at Nottingham Trent University.

This course will enable you to appreciate the contribution of economics to the understanding of the wider economic and social environment. You will be able to develop a critical understanding of a range of economic concepts and to acquire an ability to use these concepts in a variety of different contexts.

Using an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of economics you will develop an ability to think as an economist and develop skills, qualities and attitudes which will equip you for the challenges, opportunities and responsibilities of future study and employment.

Unit 3: Business Economics and the Distribution of Income

Unit 4: The National and International Economy

Entry Requirements

6 GCSEs at Grade C or above including a Grade B in English, Mathematics and a Business related subject.

Assessment

100% examination.

Progression

This course provides an excellent basis for progress into higher education and for a career in the fields of finance and business.
