Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University visit
23/09/11
Fifteen Year 11 Gifted and Talented students from each of the four IC6 partner schools shared an inspirational visit to Corpus Christ College, Cambridge University on September 15th as part of the integrated IC6 Higher Education and Careers advice programme.
University visits are planned for Year 11 students in order to help raise awareness and aspiration early on through gaining insight into different aspects of university life.
Firstly students were given expert advice on how to make a competitive application to the college from Dr Melanie Taylor Admissions Tutor at Corpus Christi College and then were able to find out more about the academic and social life of the college by speaking with current undergraduates in a Q & A session. They were reassured to hear that Corpus aim to attract the most talented and committed students, irrespective of origin or background.
The stimulating programme continued as students sampled a series of taster lectures on:
• History and the monstrous Richard III
• Making friends and influencing people
• The collapse of the World Trade Centre
The group were taken on a tour of the college learning that its beautiful buildings are some of the most ancient in Oxford having been founded in 1517. The day ended with a visit to another Cambridge college.
The students all agreed the day was educational and inspiring and would be sure to motivate them in achieving their goals.
