Cambridge University visit IC6
19/05/11
On 17th May IC6 Year 10 partner school students attended a talk given by Dr Melanie Taylor from Cambridge University.
The talk forms part of the IC6 Raising Aspirations programme for Gifted and Talented students structured to support and foster student aspiration and enable our students in their applications to Oxbridge and Russell Group Universities.
Dr Taylor outlined the difference between Oxford and Cambridge and mainstream universities and the benefits of going to a university where each department is among the strongest or the strongest itself in the country. The many questions and the positive feedback from the 60 students present suggested that Dr Taylor had allayed any fears they may have had before about applying to Oxbridge.
As part of the next stage of the Raising Aspirations programme students are being taken to Cambridge University in September for the day. In February 2012 as part of the IC6 Higher Education Fair (which fifty universities will attend) Dr Taylor will give a talk to students and parents about Cambridge and Oxford Universities.
This is only one of the many strands of work we do with our Gifted and Talented students and any student that aspires to progress to university.
