FAQs

How do I choose my course?

1. Read through all the course descriptions and talk to your subject and careers teachers. Find out as much information as you can.
2. Come along to our Open Evening and ask all the staff about the subjects you are interested in.
3. Think carefully about the subjects you enjoy that will help you move on to university or work and will open up the kind of opportunities you might want or need in the future.
4. Research universities and courses. What are their entry requirements?
5. Research jobs and careers. What subjects, qualifications and skills will make employers keen to employ you?
    

What grades do I need?

The entry requirements for all our courses are listed under course programmes.

Will I have to wear a uniform?

There are no uniform rules for Sixth Formers other than the requirement that clothing is smart, suitable for school and not offensive. We ask that hoods are not worn whilst in school.

What do I do when I have free lessons?

There will be periods when you do not have a lesson. All schools have their own sixth form common room and study area where you can get on with learning in a quiet environment. You can leave the school during your free periods as long as you are back in time for your next session.

What financial support is there for sixth formers?

As sixth form students on a full time course you can apply for an Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA). This can be up to £30 per week, depending on the level of household income. You will need to have full attendance and keep up-to-date with your work to qualify.

What help do I receive as a sixth form student?

Your teachers are here to give you the help, advice, encouragement and support you need to advance in your studies. If there is any part you are struggling with you can ask to see them individually to get additional support.

How do you make sure I reach my potential?

Every student is assigned a personnel tutor who will be responsible for your overall development and welfare, keeping you encouraged and up-to-date with your work. We will also have four assessment points during the year where your performance is monitored against your predicted target. There are support mechanisms in place to ensure you are supported if you are below target. Reports are sent home and there are Parents’ Evenings.
